The State Bank of India Staff Association traces its roots to the erstwhile Imperial Bank of India Indian Staff Association which was established in the year 1920 under the Societies Registration Act even before the enactment of the Trade Union Act in the country. This is one of the oldest Trade Union Organizations in India. The first General Secretary of the Association was the legendary TU leader Com. Ajit Sen to whom memory the Head Quarters building of SBISA in Kolkata is dedicated. Subsequently, the Association was registered under the Indian Trade Union Act after its enactment in 1926, only in the month of May, 1932.
